ARMA — It was Senior Night and Dig Pink Night here Monday as Northeast’s volleyball team won both its matches in a non-league quadrangular. The Vikings (11-12) defeated Chetopa in three sets, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, and Bronaugh, Mo., 25-13, 25-13.

These were just two matches in a four-day stretch for Northeast. They played four matches in the Uniontown Tournament Saturday and also played a Three Rivers League quadrangular Tuesday night with Jayhawk-Linn, Crest and host Marmaton Valley.

“We’ll play 10 games in four days, counting the tournament and (Tuesday),” Northeast head coach Russ Cramer said. “But the good thing is that we’re playing well right now. That makes going into (Moran) a lot easier.”

The Vikings held a 24-10 lead in the first set versus Chetopa but had trouble closing it out as the Green Hornets scored 8 straight points before a kill by senior Madison Walker closed out the set. Chetopa was able to keep the momentum in the second set and even led the third set 19-13. Northeast scored 12 of the last 13 points of the match, including a 7-0 run to end it.

Walker had 11 kills for the Vikings when she played up front and had 9 assists when she played back row. Liz Toms added 11 kills. Emily Hensley, who sets when Walker is in the front row, also had 9 assists. Libero Rachel Fox led with 12 digs while Hensley had 10.

Chetopa swept Bronaugh in the middle match, 25-11, 25-14. Then Northeast took on the Wildcats. Bronaugh took a 10-8 lead early in the first set but the Vikings rolled off 10 straight points, capped by back-to-back ace serves by Haley Claffey. Northeast scored the last 5 points, all when Bronaugh couldn’t get the ball back over the net. The Vikings also had a dominant stretch in the second set, using a 14-2 run to go up 21-9 as the Wildcats seemed to tire after playing back-to-back matches. An ace by Fox ended the match.

With only two sets that were played quickly, the stats didn’t build up as much. Walker had 4 kills for Northeast while Hensley handed out 6 assists. Claffey served 3 aces while Walker and Fox each came up with 3 digs.
