Tribune to begin coverage of Northeast athletics
The Fort Scott Tribune has reached out to school officials at Northeast High School, Arma, to offer to cover the school’s athletic teams. Coverage of Northeast programs will begin as soon as coaches are up to date on how to make sure reports of their events appear in each issue. Hopefully, readers in northeast Crawford County will see coverage, if not beginning today, then in time for Saturday’s edition.
The Tribune reached out to Northeast Athletic Director Piper Richardson after the school found out recently that the major newspaper in their county had decided to discontinue coverage and did not give the school any prior notice.
It may take a week or two to get coverage fully in sync with the other sports the Tribune covers. But as you can see in today’s edition, the Tribune has already received some information from earlier in the season.
The Tribune has covered news in the Arcadia area in the past. That town is now a part of the Northeast district along with Arma and Mulberry. Northeast is a member of the Three Rivers League along with Uniontown, which the Tribune also covers, Altoona-Midway, Chetopa, Crest, Jayhawk-Linn, Marmaton Valley, Oswego, Pleasanton, St. Paul, Yates Center and, beginning with winter sports later this year, Southeast.
Northeast’s fall sports are football, volleyball and cross country. The school fields boys’ and girls’ basketball teams in the winter and track, baseball and softball teams in the winter. Northeast is a Class 3A school.
