JV tennis opens season at home

Fort Scott High School’s junior varsity tennis team opened its season at home Monday as host of a four-team junior varsity tournament.

Fort Scott had only three players. Shaylee Terry played No. 1 singles and lost to Amanda Trout of Independence, 6-0, Allie Utley of Iola, 6-0, and Rylee Johnson of Pittsburg, 6-4.

Alexis Bailey and Addie Smith played No. 1 doubles. They lost to Soli Groff and Emma Johnson of Independence, 6-4, and to Kassy Shelby and Carlie Payne of Iola by the same score. They also lost to Carmen Kent and Gina Matthew of Pittsburg, 6-2.

The Tigers will play in a dual at Pittsburg on Tuesday. The entire JV schedule can be seen at the end of the Tiger tennis season preview on Page 10 of today’s edition.
