Kelly Wayne Filkel
Kelly Wayne Filkel, 62, of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday at his residence. Kelly was born Oct. 25, 1954 in Girard, Kan., a son of Charles Wayne and Maxine Opal (Baker) Filkel. He grew up at rural Girard and graduated from Girard High School. He graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.
He helped his folks on the farm before working for Job Services in Hutchinson and Topeka, Kan.
He moved to Wichita and worked at Boeing Aircraft before moving to Los Angeles where he was an industrial engineering specialist at Northrop-Grumman Aircraft Company where he worked on stealth aircraft.
Kelly enjoyed his cars, including his Corvettes.
He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his mother, of Girard; a sister, Janet Van Scyoc, and her husband, Steve, of Leawood, Kan.; several cousins.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Girard Cemetery with Pastor Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, KS, 66743.
