ONLINE FIRST: ’Hound softball takes Highland to three games
HIGHLAND — After losing Game One of a best-of-three Region VI District D playoff series to Highland 13-0 here Tuesday, Fort Scott Community College's softball team stunned the Scotties in Game Two, 5-4, to force a winner-take-all third game on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds (23-33) entered the game as the No. 13 seed in Region VI while Highland (33-10) was the third seed.
The Scotties won the series with an 11-3 win on Wednesday.
Tuesday's win in Game Two was Fort Scott's first post-season win since 2009, the final season of Lauren Sigwing's tenure, and the first for FSCC head coach Kristin Janes in 10 tries. Janes became just the eighth of the program's 16 head coaches to win a playoff game.
