Young hits first juco home run
Fort Scott High School graduate Carter Young hit his first junior-college home run as Fort Scott Community College swept the University of Saint Mary junior varsity in a doubleheader at Lions Field Tuesday.
Young belted his homer in the fourth inning of the first game with two runners on and one out. The blast provided the final runs in an 18-2 blowout. The Greyhounds won the second game 7-4 as Young went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Fort Scott led game one 9-2 after one inning. Mitch Sloan had 4 of the Greyhounds’ 20 hits, including 2 doubles. Will Baker was 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in. Danny Crews was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Andrew Morrow and Harrison Whitworth were each 3 for 4. Andruw McKenzie was 2 for 3 and Mackay Williams and Mitch McCallister were each 2 for 4. Morrow drove in 3 runs and Whitworth brought in 2.
Keller Agre (3-1) was the winning pitcher, going the first 4 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out 2. Avery Boehm finished up allowing a hit and striking out one in an inning of work.
Game two was more competitive but the Greyhounds scored 4 in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.
Joe Fagano (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. He allowed one hit and struck out one in two innings of work. Boehm struck out one in an inning of work and Kobie Schmitt recorded his 12th save of the season, striking out one in the top of the seventh.
Crews was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI for the ’Hounds. Baker was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
