Anna Faye Steele

Anna Faye Steele, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at the Country Place Memory Care Facility in Fort Scott. She was born March 18, 1935, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Jefferson T. Woodring and Anna L. Hensley Woodring. Faye attended first grade at Richards, Mo. She later attended Fort Scott schools and graduated from Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1953. She later took several courses at Fort Scott Community College pertaining to her insurance career. Faye worked for the Western Insurance Company and attained the status of territory underwriter. She migrated to American States and later Safeco Insurance. She took early retirement after 34 years of service. She was a member of the Western Pioneer Club. Faye was a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Scott. She had worked in the church office and served on the church board and was involved with the Anna Bender Fellowship Guild in addition to other church activities. Later in life, she worshipped with the Mt. Orum Baptist Church in rural Redfield, Kan. Faye was united in marriage to Robert G. Steele on March 27, 1974, in Fort Scott. Faye and Bob did extensive traveling and thoroughly enjoyed being with each other. Faye also enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, reading and gardening as well as doing volunteer work. She volunteered her time for the Old Fort Genealogical Society, the Beacon and the community Thanksgiving dinner.

Survivors include her husband, Bob, of the home in Fort Scott; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Laura Steele, of Fort Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ernest, Everett and Eldon Woodring and three sisters, Wilma Wells, Thelma Stancer and Fern Keele.

Following cremation, Rev. Marty Dewitt will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 at the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cheney Witt Chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. until leaving for the cemetery 10:45 a.m. Memorials are suggested to Care to Share and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
