Earl F. Severy

Earl F. Severy, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Fort Scott, the son of Henry Berton Severy and Cora Ballou Severy. Earl married Ivadean Feagins on April 15, 1958, at Miami, Okla. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Earl served as an electrician onboard the U.S.S. Guide. The ship was a minesweeper, which cleared the seas between China and Japan. In earlier years, Earl worked for Comstocks and Texaco. He later owned the Mobile station and ran his own tire service center for many years. In addition, he operated his own farm and lovingly cared for his wife, Ivadean. He retired in 2002. Earl was a member of the Community of Christ Church where he served as elder and pastor. He enjoyed singing and while stationed in California, sang with a group called the Town Hall Ranch Party, which opened for Ernest Tubb and Lefty Frizzell.

Survivors include his two children, Sheila Seaver and husband, Bill, of Kansas City, Kan., and Bert Severy of Fort Scott; three grandchildren, Kris Seaver, Brian Seaver and wife, Julie and Melissa Engbroten and husband, Justin and six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Tristan, Alora, Alayna, Kyri and Gwendolyn. His wife, Ivadean, preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles William "Bud" Severy and four sisters, Leore Owens, Mary Smith, Betty Hurd and Blanche Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Community of Christ Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
