William Robert "Bill" Schilling
William Robert "Bill" Schilling, age 85, a former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Nyssa, Ore., passed away Dec. 9, 2016, in Boise, Idaho. He was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Deerfield, Mo., the son of William Louis Schilling and Alice Messick Endicott Schilling. He graduated from the Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Bill rode west on his Harley and eventually settled in Nyssa, Ore. In earlier years, he operated an ambulance and fire truck service. He later served as president of the Ore-Ida trucking company. Following employment with Ore-Ida, he owned and operated his own trucking company. Following his retirement from trucking, he owned and operated a car wash in Nyssa. Bill was an excellent mechanic and did small engine repair out of his home. Bill enjoyed gardening and canning as well as hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed studying genealogy and attending family reunions. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2134 of Nyssa
Survivors include his sister, Ruby Myers, of Fort Scott and her children, Pam Korinek, Eddie Beerbower, Debbie Isaac and Carol Clark. Also surviving are his children, Kenneth George, Rex Dale, Dalene Sue and Lynda Lee and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Floyd and Lawrence Schilling and two sisters, Sara Parker and Lucille Wolf.
Rev. Dr. Jared Witt will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Clarksburg Cemetery.
