Eck wins 145 title at Anderson County

GARNETT -- Colt Eck won the championship at 145 pounds for Uniontown's wrestling team at the Anderson County Tournament here Saturday while the Eagles finished in seventh place as a team with just seven athletes participating.

Eck was 4-0 on the day, pinning Winslow of Erie and Roberts of Anderson County in his pool matches, needing a total of just 43 seconds to do so. In the semifinal round, he pinned Prairie View's Nathan Akes in the third period and won the championship by pinning Derrick Serrano of Blue Valley Southwest, a Class 5A school, in the second.

There were four Eagles who finished fifth in their weight classes, beginning with Graham Hathaway at 120 pounds. He lost to Brayden Dame of Prairie View in his first match in the pool but defeated Tyler Secrest of Anderson County, 15-6, in his next match. He then lost to Riley McDaniel of Frontenac and pinned Dayton Wade of Caney Valley to round out his pool matches. He went to the fifth-place match, where he pinned Ryland Wright of Anderson County.

John Emmerson was fifth at 170. He was pinned by Colton Hobbs of Butler, Mo., in his first pool match but pinned Jayhawk-Linn's Turner Dent in the other one. In the bracket, he was pinned in the quarters by Chanz Gerleman of Prairie View and by Skylar Haviland of Erie in the consolation semifinal. He won the fifth place match over Mitchell Conner of Blue Valley Southwest by pin.

Nick Hathaway was sixth at 195. He was pinned by Dominic Sutton of Anderson County and Conner Ridgeway of Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail in pool matches. In the consolation semifinal, he pinned Iola's Gary Lower. In the consolation final, he was pinned by Prairie View's Sam Chambers.

Cale Coyan placed fifth at 220, which was a round-robin pool. He lost to Seth Stanford of Iola in his first pool match on a disqualification and then was pinned by Dallas Higginbotham of Anderson County, Colby Maples of Frontenac, and Evan Dean of Santa Fe Trail. He won over Scott Spoonemore of S.F.T. by injury default in his final match.

Izayah Houk finished sixth at 126 pounds, going without a win in the tournament. All losses were by pin to Trevor Compton of Jayhawk-Linn, Lane Thompson of J-Linn, Jacob Boone of Blue Valley Southwest, Zack Barnes of Anderson County and Matt Cubit of Central Heights.

Hayden Miller was seventh at 160 pounds. He was pinned by Dalton Duke of Anderson County in his first match of the pool. He pinned Chance Gill of Jayhawk-Linn in his second but was then pinned by Jeremy Wood of Blue Valley Southwest and Justice Holstine of Southeast. In the seventh-place match, Miller pinned Iola's Allen Blackburn.

Uniontown scored 73 team points in finishing seventh. Frontenac was the tournament champion with 242.5 points followed by Santa Fe Trail with 195 and host Anderson County with 181.

The Eagles went to Southeast for a dual Thursday night. The Uniontown junior varsity was also scheduled to wrestle there in their first competition of the season. However, results were not available in time for today's edition.
