Madison shoots personal best at State
HESSTON -- Fort Scott freshman Lauren Madison had the best day of her young high-school golfing life as she finished in a tie for 11th place at the Kansas Class 4A State Golf Tournament at Hesston Golf Club here Monday.
Despite windy conditions, Madison shot a personal-best score of 42-44--86. That total was four strokes better than her previous best of 90 at the Chanute Regional last week.
Madison's 42 on the front nine matched her best for any nine holes. Her 44 on the back nine was her best score on that section of any course.
Madison tied with Winfield sophomore Kenna Biddle, Clay Center senior Allie Frederick, and Wichita Trinity junior Regan Lesser. All four were two strokes shy of playing off for 10th.
Freshmen Madison Slayton and Hanna Hawks of Trinity finished in the top two spots in leading the Knights to their first State title. Slayton, the school's first individual champ, shot 79 while Hawks finished one stroke back. Another freshman, Andale's Morgan Brasser was third at 81.
Trinity shot 328 as a team finishing 26 strokes ahead of Topeka Hayden. Larned was third at 362.
