LOUISBURG -- Fort Scott High School's cross-country team was not able to go to Independence for its scheduled meet Thursday. But they were able to enter the Louisburg meet and ended up sweeping the team titles in the varsity races.

The girls finished with 19 points, four above a perfect score in cross-country. Spring Hill was a distant second with 58 points. Louisburg was third with 72 points and Paola was the last team eligible for scoring with 79.

The Tigers took the top three individual spots and six of the top nine. Kelsey Carpenter was the winner in 21 minutes, 25 seconds followed by Mallory Westhoff in 21:46 and Paxsten Eads in 21:48. Fourth place went to Ainsley Curry of Ottawa in 22:08.

Lexi Bryant took seventh place for Fort Scott in a time of 22:30 with Emma Davis eighth in 22:36 and Berkley Chavis ninth in 22:37.

Fort Scott's boys scored 40 points in winning the team title with Spring Hill second 2 points behind. Paola was third with 66 points.

Dylan Brenneman of Spring Hill was the individual winner in 16:57 but Devin Brooks took second for the Tigers in 17:23. He was the only other runner to finish in under 18 minutes.

Gavin Smith finished in fifth place with his time of 18:32. Nick Shelton finished 12th in 19:05, Nick Deloney 13th in 19:10 and Connor Mason 15th in 19:11. Noah Daly finished 24th in 20:13.

The boys' and girls' junior varsity races were combined. Zach Pryor was the best Fort Scott boy with his 18th-place time of 24:09. Kaden Kiwan was 31st in 27:02.

Asia Farrington had the best time of Tiger girls in 26:05. It appears that had the girls' results been recorded or the race ran separately, she'd have been the winner. Alyx Brooks was right behind Farrington in 26:09 with Gracie Krokroskia following them in 26:22. Zoe Self had a time of 26:47, Gabriella Griffin 27:12, Melonie Harper 29:07, Morgan Eaton 29:16, and Makensie Griffin, 33:57.

Next up for the Tigers is the Southeast Kansas League Championships at Chanute on Thursday.
