Brooks, Tiger girls win titles in Pittsburg
PITTSBURG -- Devin Brooks and Fort Scott High's varsity girls were winners here Friday in Pittsburg's cross-country meet.
Brooks won the boys' individual title, crossing the finish line in 16:15 with Pittsburg's Connar Southard second in 16:36.
The Tigers finished second in team standings with 66 points to Pittsburg's 55.
Also competing for Fort Scott were Gavin Smith, who finished ninth in 17:19, Nick Deloney, who turned in a time of 18:08, Nick Shelton, who finished in 18:23, Noah Daly, 19:12, and Raymond Harper, 20:44.
Uniontown's Jonathan Harp turned in a time of 19:49.
Fort Scott's girls scored 36 points in winning the varsity title. Frontenac was second with 55 points and Independence placed third with 86.
Five of the six Tigers who ran earned medals. Paxsten Eads finished in fifth place in 20:28 followed by Mallory Westhoff in sixth in 20:35. Kelsey Carpenter finished ninth in 20:54, Emma Davis 14th in 21:15 and Lexi Bryant 15th in 21:17. Missing out on a medal by just one second was Berkley Chavis in 21:18.
Uniontown did not have a competitor in the girls' varsity race. The winner was Rene Trout of Independence in 19:29.
Fort Scott had four medalists in the girls' junior varsity race while Uniontown had one. For the Tigers, Zoe Self came in sixth in 23:58, Asia Farrington ninth in 24:38, Gracie Krokroskia 10th in 24:40 and Gabby Griffin 11th in 24:53.
Uniontown's medalist was Nikki Bollinger, 15th in 21:15.
Other Fort Scott runners were Mackenzie Ragan, 25:23, Melonie Harper, 27:32, Morgan Eaton, 27:37 and MacKensie Griffin, 32:26. Bryana Johnston competed for Uniontown and turned in a time of 26:39.
Uniontown's Taylor George medaled in the boys' JV race, finishing 13th in 20:25. Shelton Bailey turned in a time of 21:06 and Michael Goebell finished in 31:40.
Fort Scott's competitors were Luke Martin with a time of 23:36 and Kaden Kiwan in 26:35.
Fort Scott's teams will take part in the Independence Invitational next Thursday. Uniontown's teams will be in Pleasanton that day.
