Beulah Elizabeth Queen
Beulah Elizabeth Queen, 97, of Fort Scott, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 24, 2016 at the Guest Home Estates. She was born Aug. 31, 1918 in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Charles Henry and Jessie Maude (Kough) Newell. Beulah's first husband, Raymond Paul Drummond, died in 1960. She later remarried Lester "Slim" Queen on Oct. 27, 1962. Slim preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1994.
Beulah worked for the Western Insurance Company in various positions from file checker to supervisor. She retired from that company in 1981 after 39 years. She had many interests throughout life but none were more important to her than her membership in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, her church affiliations and her love of quilting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and in recent years had been attending Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
Beulah had no children but did have a host of nieces and nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Beulah was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Orville, Clarence, and Delbert Newell; and three sisters, Viola Lucas, Xerepha Weddle and Mary Sheffer.
Rev. Tyler Whipkey will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following in the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Grove Baptist Church or the First United Methodist Church and left in care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O.
