Locals fall to Ottawa, 11-3
The Kansas Indians 18-and-under team, one of Fort Scott's summer high-school level baseball teams, fell to Ottawa in a nine-inning game at Dave Regan Stadium Wednesday by a score of 11-3.
According to the Indians' Gamechanger page, they're 9-9 for the season with games in the Wounded Warrior Classic at the stadium and at Fort Scott Community College coming up this weekend.
Ottawa held a 7-0 lead after three innings and were up 9-0 after 5 1/2 innings before the Indians got on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Grant Goldstob, Kaleb DeLaTorre and Chase Brown all drew 2-out walks to load the bases. Goldston scored when Carter Young reached on an error and DeLaTorre came in when Jeron Poyner was hit by a pitch.
The Indians' other run came in during the seventh when Ty Gorman scored on a fielder's choice.
Chandler Defebaugh had 3 of the Indians' 6 hits in the game.
The Indians will play two games in the W.W.C. on Saturday, both at Lions Field at FSCC. They face Pittsburg at 11:30 a.m. and the Midwest Braves at 2 p.m.
Sunday, the Indians will take on Ozark, Mo., at Dave Regan Stadium at 3:45 p.m. Bracket play begins with the game that follows and continues on Monday at the stadium with consolation games at Lions Field.
There will also be "Sunday Funday" activities at the stadium on Sunday.
Sunday activities, in addition to the games, will include a bounce house, a beer garden provided by the Bourbon County Shrine Club, a speech by combat veteran Brian Keaton, a hamburger stand provided by E3 Meat Company, a concert by Luke Axtell and friends, and a fireworks display.
Admission is $5 with children under 5, veterans and active military admitted free. The admission price is good for the entire day Sunday, no matter when spectators arrive.
Proceeds from the "Sunday Funday" activities will be donated to the Wounded Warrior and Lone Survivor Foundation.
