Three injured in wreck at Uniontown Wednesday
Three local people were injured in a one-vehicle accident late Wednesday night in Uniontown.
According to a report from the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office, emergency personnel were dispatched a little after 11:30 p.m. to a report of an injury accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 54 and Kansas Highway 3. The accident involved a 2002 Dodge Durango leaving the roadway, Bourbon County Sheriff Bill Martin said Thursday.
The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Kristyn Deantoni of Fort Scott, was northbound on K-3 and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and continued north over an embankment into a field, Martin said.
"It's unclear, but she left the vehicle and made her way back to 54 highway and crawled through the embankment onto the roadway where passersby saw her and stopped and called 911," he said.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, two passengers in the vehicle -- 22-year-old Michael Livingston of Fort Scott and a 17-year-old male -- were outside the vehicle. Martin said it is unknown at this time if the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. He said medical personnel were working to treat the victims of the crash.
Livingston was flown by medical helicopter from the scene to Joplin, Mo., to be treated for injuries. The 17-year-old male was flown from the scene to Springfield, Mo.
A 5-month-old infant found inside the vehicle was secured in a safety seat and was not injured, Martin said.
Deantoni was injured in the accident and was transported by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital Fort Scott.
Martin said deputies worked until after 3 a.m. Thursday clearing the crash scene.
