Racye Ann Schnichels, age 84, of Fort Scott, Kan., was granted her angel wings with her family by her side when the lord called her home on June 6. She nourished people around her with her love and her faith. She was an avid card player, teaching all her grandkids to play pitch before they could even read. She was well know for her made from scratch all by hand angel food cakes. She loved to write letters daily and had numerous penpals.

Racye Ann was born in Salisbury, Mo., on Jan. 28, 1932, the 11th child and fifth daughter of Lucy May (Foundree) and Edward Franklin McCollum.

After first being pen pals first with his sister Elfie and then with Norval, Racye Ann married the love of her life Norval Garrett Schnichels, Sr. in Moberly, Mo., on Jan. 3, 1952. Together they resided in Marmaton their married life of 51 years. Norval went to be with Our Lord Feb. 12, 2002.

To this union were born two children, Martha Ann Wrenn and Norval Garrett Schnichels, Jr. Also adopting two nieces Debra Ann Schnichels and Virginia Lillian (Schnichels) Godwin.

Racye Ann was a dedicated member of Bethel Community Church. Racye was a Sunday school teacher and church secretary for 36 years. Continuing to make angel food cakes for the family of the week and to copy and mail the church bulletin to others until her health declined.

Survivors include Son Norval Garrett Schnichels, Jr. and his wife Mary, daughters Martha Wrenn and Virginia Godwin. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer (Schnichels) Elder and husband Delbert of Redfield, Kan., Paul R. Schnichels and wife Lindsay, Daniel Allen and wife Sandra, Matthew Allen and wife Meghan. Surviving great-grandchildren are Kiersten Townsley, Garrett Elder, Wyatt Elder, William Schnichels, Angela and Michelle Godwin, Ashley willis and husband Will, Nick and Tyler Allen, Mia and Madison Allen. Sister-in-law Elfie Schnichels, Fort Scott, Kan. She also leaves behind her Bethel Church family, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Proceeding her in death were her husband Norval Schnichels Sr., a daughter Debra Schnichels, her parents, three brothers in infancy, eight brothers and sisters.

Respecting her wishes we do not dwell on her good deeds instead we rejoice knowing Racye Ann accepting the Lord as her Savior. We give thanks to her constant caregiver and loving granddaughter Jennifer Elder and her family.

A visitation will be held June 16 at 6 p.m. at Marmaton Community Church, memorial to follow at 7 p.m. Interment at the U.S. National Cemetery at a later date.
