Charles Wayne Reed

Charles Wayne Reed, age 65, a resident of rural Savonburg, Kan., died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. He was born Dec. 31, 1950, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Donald Wayne Reed and Myrtle Marie Johnson Reed. He graduated from the Uniontown High School with the Class of 1968. He later graduated from Pittsburg State University. He married Kathryn Ann Reed on May 15, 1977, at Fort Scott, Kan. Charles was first and foremost a husband, dad and papa. He was raised on a cattle ranch and continued ranching until ill health prevented him from working. He later turned the cattle operation over to his son, Blake. Chuck loved spending time with his grandchildren, going to their ballgames and teaching them the value of old westerns. He was an avid antique collector and had owned and operated the Corner of Time Antique Store in Fort Scott for 22 years. He was a member of the Porterville United Methodist Church and had attended the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Scott.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Kathy, of the home; a son, Blake Charles Reed and wife, Julie, of Savonburg, Kan., and a daughter, Dawn Marilyn Reed, of Pittsburg, Kan.; five grandchildren, John Wayne Reed, Victoria Kay Reed, Andrew Cole Reed, Stevie Rose Amos and Cooper Marie Reed. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Betty Reed of Fort Scott; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Ralph and Barb Reed and Jim and Mert Barrows of Fort Scott and John and Maggie Reed, of Olathe, Kan., and nephews and nieces, R.W., Joe and Matt Reed, Dona and Fernando Leon, Chuck and Sharon Milde, Nick and Kellye Barrows and their daughter, Harper, and Chris and Molly Barrows and their son, J.W.

Following cremation, Rev. Jared Witt will conduct a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6 at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials are suggested to the Reed Grandchildren Scholarship Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
