SHAWNEE MISSION -- Fort Scott High School senior Cassidy Westhoff broke school records in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races at the Shawnee Mission North Relays here Friday.

Westhoff turned in a time of 5:05.54 in the 1,600 but finished fourth as the event turned out to be one of the fastest races in Kansas history as both the winner and the runner-up, Girard's Callie Logue and Shawnee Mission Northwest's Molly Born, broke the meet record. Logue won in 4:44.08, the third-fastest time in state history and the fourth-fastest in the United States this season. Born followed in 4:50.92 and Emily Venters of Lawrence-Free State was third in 5:02.92.

Just to give an idea of how packed this race was, it included:

* Logue, a junior, two-time defending Class 4A State champion in both the 1,600 and 3,200 and three-time defending Class 4A State cross-country champion.

* Westhoff, who finished as State runner-up to Logue in both races last year and was also runner-up to Logue at State cross country this season.

* Born, a sophomore, is the defending Class 6A State champ in the 1,600, the 3,200 and cross-country.

* Venters, a junior, won Class 6A in the 3,200 in 2014 and was Class 6A State cross-country champ in 2013 and 2014.

* The race also included Olathe North senior Cameron Gueldner, who was the Class 6A 3,200-meter champ in 2013. She finished fifth in the 1,600 Friday in 5:07.23.

* There were five other runners who medaled in either Class 5A or 6A last season in the 1,600 here.

Westhoff finished second in the 3,200 meters behind Logue, who turned in a time of 10:53.90. Westhoff clocked in at 11:02.16 and St. Paul senior Jenny O'Bryan -- three time State cross-country, two-time State 3,200 and current 1,600-meter champion in Class 1A -- was third in 11:03.32. Gueldner was fourth in 11:05.92.

Devin Brooks competed for Fort Scott in the boys' 3,200 meters. He finished in 23rd place with a time of 10:10.06. Belesti Akalu of Shawnee Mission North was the winner in 9:27.29 and his brother, Alex, was the runner-up in 9:35.41.

The rest of the Tigers competed at the Thad Clements Invitational at Chanute on Friday. Those results are published below.

All of the Tigers will gather in Pittsburg on Thursday for the Southeast Kansas League Relays.
