No. 13 Hutchinson sweeps Greyhounds

No. 13 Hutchinson swept Fort Scott Community College Saturday in a Jayhawk Conference-Division II softball doubleheader at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex. The Blue Dragons won the opener 7-0 and the second game 3-1.

The Greyhounds (4-16 division, 6-18 region, 19-30 overall) were again trying for an elusive victory that would give them back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history. Their record in the month of April fell to 3-15 and they have lost their last four since getting win No. 19 April 13 at Coffeyville.

Holly Kelley (21-4) held Fort Scott to 4 hits in the opener, one each by Alex Perez, Chelsea Snyder, Kaylee Bart and Allison Davis. She walked one batter and struck out 12. Kelley also hit her 13th home run of the season, a 2-run shot in the fourth inning.

Hutchinson (16-4, 20-4, 32-6) took a 3-0 lead in the second on a 3-run homer by Sami Loos. Fort Scott got its lone run in the fifth when Bart drove Snyder in with 2 outs.

Fort Scott's other hits came from Snyder, Kristen Tyler, Cheyenne Brewer and Taylor Brecheisen.

Kristen Taylor (6-2) allowed 5 hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings. Kelly came back to the circle for the game's last 7 outs, striking out 4, and picked up her fourth save of the season.

The Greyhounds conclude regular-season play today with a doubleheader at division-leading Highland (17-2, 21-2, 34-8), which is ranked No. 8 in the nation.
