During the annual Civil War Encampment held Saturday and Sunday, visitors were able to witness reenactments of life at the fort during the Civil War. About 700 visitors attended the event Saturday, according to Galen Ewing, National Park Ranger at the site.

The Civil War came to life Saturday and Sunday when the Fort Scott National Historic Site hosted the 34th annual Civil War Encampment. About 700 visitors toured the fort Saturday. Reenactors camped at the site, conducted artillery and fire arms exercises. Various programs were held throughout the weekend, including a Civil War soldiers' reunion Saturday night.
