Score rises at Pittsburg
PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High's golfers struggled here Tuesday and saw their team score rise by 20 strokes at the Pittsburg Invitational at Crestwood Country Club.
The Tigers finished sixth out of seven teams with a score of 407, up from the 387 they shot at Independence on April 7.
"I saw several good, crisp golf shots, but many that simply were not executed well," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "I thought the boys hung in there through their difficulties and never gave up, but definitely struggled. We are going to keep working on all phases of our game and try to improve at our home tournament next Monday."
The Tigers' best score was posted by Hudson Horn, who tied for 20th place. He shot 49 on the front nine and 50 on the back for a score of 99.
Bret Pickert followed with a score of 49-52--101 with Tanner Fox next at 53-50--103. Nick Reynolds came in at 55-49--104.
Varsity newcomers Cade Gosewich and Kaleb Guilfoyle shot 59-59--118 and 61-70--131, respectively.
The individual champion was Coffeyville's Logan Vacca at 38-37--75. Chanute was the team champ at 340.
