Greyhound softball struggles continue

Fort Scott Community College's softball team has seen its share of struggles lately and they continued Saturday at Concordia and Monday in Ottawa.

Fort Scott played six games between Friday and Monday and won only a Region VI-Division II post-season doubleheader against Brown Mackie in Salina on Friday, 11-2 and 6-4.

Brown Mackie has the worst record in Region VI, 3-34 after losing both games in a doubleheader to Johnson County on Saturday. The Lions have lost 21 consecutive games.

Kaylee Bart was 3 for 4 with 3 runs batted in in game one while Taylor Brecheisen was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and Cheyenne Brewer was 2 for 3. Fort Scott took the lead with 7 runs in the top of the second inning.

Aubrey Smith allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and didn't walk anyone.

Game two was tied 4-4 after four. Fort Scott took the lead in the sixth when Snyder drove in 2 runs on a single. She was 2 for 3 while Brecheisen was 2 for 4.

Amber Sutton allowed 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3 over the first 5 innings. Bart finished up, allowing 1 walk and striking out 1 in the final 2 innings.

Saturday at Concordia, the 'Hounds were swept by Cloud County in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play 4-0 and 9-1. Fort Scott was held to one hit in game two.

Bart went 2 for 3 in game one and Brewer was 2 for 4.

Monday, the Greyhounds suffered a sweep at the Ottawa University junior varsity, 7-4 and 8-2. Jenna Nevius hit her first home run of the season for Fort Scott in the opener.

The 'Hounds are now 3-13 in the East, 5-13 in the Region and 18-25 overall. They have lost 14 of their last 17 games.
