Fort Scott High School's softball team needed some extra time but got a sweep of rival Pittsburg in a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader at Don Hewett Field Thursday.

The Tigers (2-0 SEK, 7-1 overall) won the first game 12-6 but needed nine innings to take the second game, 16-15. Pittsburg (0-4, 1-9) came into the doubleheader on a seven-game losing streak but gave their rival everything they could.

The Purple Dragons took a 15-13 lead in the top of the seventh inning of game two. But the Tigers were able to rally to tie the score.

Catcher Abby Denton singled up the middle with one out. Jenny Denton went in as the courtesy runner and scored when Lane Bohlken's hit to center field got past the defense and rolled to the fence. Bohlken tied the game on Amanda Hale's RBI groundout.

Bohlken, who came into the game in relief in the seventh only to see Pittsburg get 6 hits off of her, got through the top of the eighth. Likewise, Pittsburg pitcher Caitlyn Burdick, who pitched all nine innings, made it through the bottom half without much trouble.

Budrick led off the top of the ninth with a single to center. Abby Harris bunted courtesy runner Amanda Hoffman to second. But the Tigers turned a double play to end the inning. Shortstop Katie Gorman threw Kali Poenitske out at first and Hannah Geneva threw back to Jenny Denton, now in the game at third, to get Hoffman attempting to sneak in.

A. Denton led off the bottom of the ninth with a single up the middle. Madie Farmer came in to run and moved up on Bohlken's flair single that landed between the second baseman and the right fielder. Geneva came up with one out to line a single to right-center to get Farmer home.

Denton had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Tigers while Kyley Brown was 4 for 4 and Bohlken was 4 for 5. Taylor Krokroskia was 3 for 5 with 5 runs batted in. Geneva was 3 for 6. Bailie Brown had 2 hits. The Tigers had 23 hits in all.

Pittsburg had 18 hits off two Fort Scott pitchers. Madison Vogel was 4 for 6 with 5 RBI and Aubree Beitzinger was 4 for 5.

The Tigers took the lead for good in game one with a pair of runs to make the score 5-4 after three innings. Hale was hit by a pitch with one out, stole second and moved to third on an overthrow. She scored on Karlee Stanley's 2-out single. Stanley went on to score on B.Brown's double to center.

Three more runs, only one of them earned, went up in the fourth to make it 8-4.

Gorman and B.Brown were each 3 for 4 in game one while Krokroskia was 3 for 5. Bohlken and Stanley had 2 hits each.

Krokroskia had 7 RBI on the day and 6 hits in the doubleheader. A.Denton and Bohlken also had 6 hits each for the day.

Bohlken (7-1) allowed 8 earned runs on 16 hits and 4 walks as she went the distance. She struck out one.

For Pittsburg, which committed 7 errors, Vanessa Yaghmour was 2 for 3 and Harris and Myla Turner were each 2 for 4.

The Tigers will play Tuesday at Parsons in another SEK doubleheader. The action begins at 4:30.
