The Bourbon County asphalt crew is working on Soldier Road until Wednesday. The pavement is being milled -- or ground back to gravel -- then will be allowed to settle naturally before further work is done on the road.

After milling is completed on Soldier Road, the crew will move to Maple Road where milling will take place during the next week.

After that, the crew will be divided between the Fort Scott Industrial Park and Lake Fort Scott.

The county will mill about a mile of road on 190th between Hackberry and Grand roads at the lake prior to laying asphalt.

The county plans to lay chip and seal two miles of Soldier Road between 225th and 245th streets, two miles of Maple Road between 205th and 185th streets and two miles of Maple Road between 75th and 95th streets.

The work is part of the 2016 Hard-surface Road project. The county has prioritized a total of 17 miles of chip-and-seal work and 3.5 miles of asphalt work for a total estimated cost of $529,000. How much work is completed this year will depend on the road use sales tax revenue.
