Ardeline Rae "Ardie" Ober

Ardeline Rae "Ardie" Ober, age 95, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. She was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Isabel, Kan., the daughter of Theodore Milford and Iona Clark Milford. She first married Raymond L. "Jack" Barlow on Aug. 1, 1940. To this union two children, Ronald and Sandra, were born. Jack preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1952. Ardie later married Chester W. "Chet" Ober on Nov. 7, 1954. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 2007. Ardie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and had served as the kindergarten Sunday school teacher for many years. She had served as the president of the City Federation and the Mother's Club and had also been a member of the Sew and Sew Club. Ardie helped deliver Meals on Wheels and also volunteered her time for the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle, fishing, gardening and tending to her flower beds.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Barlow and wife, Donna, of Skokie, Ill., and her daughter, Sandra Barlow, of Fort Scott; two granddaughters, Caron Lubomski and husband, Neil, of Chicago, Ill., and Lindsey Good and husband, Tim, of Wheaton, Ill.; three great-granddaughters, Madilyn and Sophia Lubomski and Haley Good with a baby boy Good due at the end of April. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Bruner and Nadine Howell and three brothers, Walter, Chester and Foster Milford.
Rev. Dr. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m., until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
