Nelda Williams

Nelda Williams, age 89, a longtime resident of Redfield, Kan., and more recently of Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, March 24, 2106, at Guest Home Estates. She was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Sheridan County, Kan., the daughter of Claude Shipley and Maudie Walden Shipley. Nelda graduated from Hoxie High School and later completed beauty school in Topeka. She married Lewis Richard Williams on Aug. 23, 1947, at Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2016. Nelda had been employed by the Western Insurance Company for 35 years. In addition, she also helped her husband on their family farm. She was a member of the Mt. Orum Baptist Church and the Redfield Ruritan. She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her son, Ted Williams, Nevada, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kevin Williams and wife, Bethia, Carthage, Mo., and Kari Mills and husband, Gary, Warner Robins, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren, Emma, Madelyn, Braden, Lyvi and Suzanne. Also surviving are a sister, Leah Woofter, of Beatrice, Neb., and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Lewis, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Shipley and three sisters, Helen Gilbert, Betty Tidy, and Jean Hines.
Rev. Waylon Ingle will conduct funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 1 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30 p.m. until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Orum Baptist Church or the Redfield Ruritan and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
