Violet Lee Watkins
Violet Lee Watkins, age 90, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Fort Scott Manor. She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Arcadia, Kan., the daughter of Shirel Davis and Bessie Swafford Davis. She married Lee Stufflebeam in 1941. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1978. She later married Wayne Watkins on June 26, 1979 and he died on March 10, 1996. Violet had been employed as an LPN at Mercy Hospital for several years. She later assisted with AAA Ambulance Service. She enjoyed reading, sewing and doing crafts. She was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church and a past member of the This and That Club.
Survivors include her children, Carolyn Hartwick and husband, Ed, of Stilwell, Kan., Cathy Killion and husband, John, and David Watkins, Sr., and wife, Teresa, all of Fort Scott; grandchildren, Christopher, Edward, Coty, Deana, Alicia, David, William, Scott, Tracy, Michael, Robert and Lori; great-grandchildren, Maddy, Cooper, Macie, Kalee, Emily, Avery, Jessie, Jordan, Jonathan, Anna, Taylor, Tyler, Taylor, Trenton, Xavier, Xander, Xacia, Tracy, Tristan, Caleb, Kylie, Kaylie, Seth, Andrew, Trevor, Hannah, Caitlyn, Chelsea, Hunter, Coleman, Carter and Cooper. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Stufflebeam.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery.
