Everett LaVerne Chaplin
Everett LaVerne Chaplin, age 86, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at the Fort Scott Manor. He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Fulton, Kan., the son of Carl Chaplin and Hannah Sheat Chaplin. He married Doris Page on April 1, 1950, in Fort Scott. Everett had retired as a maintainer operator for Bourbon County. Everett was a hard worker and considered mowing his hobby. In earlier years, he had attended the Pawnee United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Chaplin and wife, Ellen, of Fort Scott; and two daughters, Dorothy Wiggans and husband, Richard, of Springdale, Ark., and Donna Chaplin, of Fort Scott; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Clara Belle Page of Hiattville, Kan., and Velma Dyche, of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Osaga Cemetery west of Fulton. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main St., P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
