Middle schoolers take four from Royster

Fort Scott Middle School's boys won all four games from Chanute-Royster held at the FSMS gymnasium Tuesday evening.

The seventh-grade "B" Team started things off with a 24-8 rout of the Rockets. The Tigers led 12-0 after one period and 20-2 at the half. Nick Emerson scored 6 of the game's first 8 points of the game and led FSMS with 8 points.

The seventh-grade "A" Team defeated Royster, 39-17. Teagan Southwell led the Tigers with 8 points followed by Malachi Vann with 7. Connor Gorman had 9 rebounds for the Tigers, who led 16-2 at the end of one period. They also outscored the Rockets 11-1 in the third quarter.

The eighth-grade "B" Team took a 28-21 win as Drake LaRoche scored 8 points and Deandre Martinez added 6.

The eighth-grade "A" Team prevailed, 39-28. After a close first quarter that ended with the Tigers leading just 9-7, Fort Scott outscored Royster 14-8 in the second and 7-2 in the third.

C.J. Horton scored 12 points and had 9 rebounds for the Tigers. Nick King added 11 points.

Monday vs. Nevada:

Fort Scott won three of four gamed played at the FSMS gymnasium Monday night.

The seventh-grade "B" Team won 22-15 as Jamar Franks scored 11 points and Broedy Lucas added 10.

The seventh-grade "A" Team lost to Nevada, 48-25. Southwell scored 10 points for the Tigers.

The eighth-grade "B" Team won 16-15 with Martinez scoring 7 points.

The eighth-grade "A" Team rounded out the night with a 32-27 win over Nevada. King led the Tigers with 9 points.

Saturday at Iola:

The Fort Scott Middle School seventh graders played in a tournament at Iola on Saturday. The "B" Team won both of its games to win the championship in its division.

The Tigers defeated host Iola, 51-13, in the first round. Franks scored 12 points to lead the way while Emerson and Alex Krebs each scored 10.

Fort Scott defeated Independence in the championship game, 37-29. Krebs scored 10 points while Bryden Hyler added 9.

The seventh-grade "A" Team finished third in its bracket. The Tigers lost in the first round to Iola, 39-26. Gavin Pytlowany scored 14 points. Trey Brown had 6 rebounds.

The Tigers defeated Chanute-Royster in the third-place game, 49-30. Southwell scored 14 points to lead FSMS while Luke Bradbury and Ivan Witt each scored 10.

Next up for the middle school, all four teams will play at Parsons Thursday with the first game scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
