Bollinger fourth at Basehor-Linwood Classic

BASEHOR -- Fort Scott's Derek Bollinger placed fourth at 138 pounds at the Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic over the weekend.

Bollinger, who came into the tournament ranled No. 2 in Class 4A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association was 4-2 over the weekend and improved to 25-2 on the season.

Bollinger drew a first-round bye then won a major decision over Alex Totta of Blue Valley. He claimed a 7-1 decision over Peyton Lane of Clay Center.

In the semifinals, Bollinger met Garrett Lange of Goddard, the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Class 5A. Lange won the match, 8-4.

In consolation, Bollinger took a 3-2 verdict over Ben Morgenster of Baldwin. Then Jake Bollinger of Smithville, Mo., won the third-place match 9-4.

Lange went on to lose in the championship, 3-2, to Stephen Tujague of Lenexa St. James, who is ranked No. 3 in Class 5A.

Fort Scott sent six other wrestlers. This is how each performed.

Zarek Fewell, 145 lbs.: Def. Tannner Snow, Prairie View, 8-3. Def. Brian Boys, Smithville, Mo., 7-4. Lost to Ethan Karsten, Platte County, Mo., pin. Lost to Brett Heil, Blue Springs, Mo., 3-2.

Chris Stell, 152 lbs.: Lost to Tyler Chrisjohn, Osawatomie, pin. Lost to Tre Kline, Prairie View, pin.

Trevor Hazlip, 170 lbs.: Lost to Trey Isenhower, Prairie View, pin. Drew a bye. Lost to Zach Coffman, Smithville, Mo., pin.

Jordan Crowder, 182 lbs.: Drew a bye. Lost to Davon Spexarth, Andale, Technical Fall. Drew a bye. Def. Ryan Curnow, Denver (Colo.)-Mountain Range, 9-6. Lost to Alex Bejarano, Basehor-Linwood, pin.

Goddard won the team title with 221 points followed by Smithville.

The Tigers will go to Columbus tonight for a triangular. Another former Southeast Kansas League rival, Iola, will also be present. Action is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
