Uniontown superintendent candidate list drops to two
Dr. Daniel Johnson of Prescott has withdrawn his application for the superintendent position at USD 235, according to Sherri Hartman, board of education clerk.
In Friday's edition of the Fort Scott Tribune the school district announced three finalists for the position of superintendent/secondary principal.
Each finalist was to participate in a daylong interview next week, with Johnson being interviewed on Tuesday.
Two candidates remain.
The first interview will be Monday with Craig Bagshaw, currently principal of Garfield Elementary School in Parsons. Bagshaw holds a Master's Degree from Pittsburg State University in educational leadership and a Bachelor's Degree from PSU in elementary education. He also has a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University in sociology and an Associate Degree from Fort Scott Community College. Previously he has been kindergarten through eighth grade principal at Thayer, a teacher at Murray Hill Elementary School, Chanute and a teacher at Altoona-Midway Middle School.
There will be no interview on Tuesday. The second candidate, Gary Klahn, will be in Uniontown Wednesday. Klahn is currently superintendent/principal at Wheeler Central Public Schools in Bartlett, Neb. Klahn has a Specialist Degree from Chadron State College in education; a Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska in education; and a Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State College in education. Klahn's previous experience has been as superintendent at Elba, Neb.; seventh through 12th grade principal at Thedford, Neb.; grades seven through 12 principal at Emerson, Neb.; grades seven through 12 teacher at David City, Neb.; grades seven through 12 teacher at Hemingford, Neb. and grades seven through 12 teacher at Fairfield, Neb.
The board expects to make a decision on the Uniontown School District leader by the end of January.
