Marvin Leon 'Wimpy" Williams, Sr.

Marvin Leon 'Wimpy" Williams, Sr., age 94, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Mercy Hospital. He was born March 5, 1921, in Fort Scott, the son of Ernest LeRoy Williams and Leah May Sauvain Williams. He married Margie Emeline James on Dec. 3, 1945, at Fort Scott. Marvin was always proud of the fact that he attended Catt School and he enjoyed driving past the old school building and reminiscing. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church. In 1941, he went to San Diego, Calif., and worked in the aircraft factory before being drafted into the Army Air Corp where he served as a tail gunner on a B-17. While serving, he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. After serving in the military, he returned to Fort Scott and started his business of Williams Heating & Air in 1950, which is still in operation today being ran by the third generation. He took great pride in his business.

Survivors include his wife, Margie, of the home; three children, Ramona Barger, of Eldorado Springs, Mo., Marvin Williams, Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Fort Scott and Bonnie Cross, of Iola, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Meschke, Julie Mingus, David Williams, Brian Williams, Chris Page, Leah Priest-Giordano, Shawna Priest, Shanna Craft and James Cross; 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Orlin "Jack" Williams, of Estes Park, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Leah Williams; five brothers, Clarence, Howard, Ray, Charles, and Norman Williams, and three sisters, Hazel Richardson, Ann Trevarton and Margaret Bingham.

Following cremation, a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the U.S. National Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel.
