Dan Dobbins

Dan Dobbins, age 87, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Guest Home Estates. He was born on March 15, 1928, in Arcadia, Kan., the son of Edwin and Ruth Perry Dobbins. He graduated from Arcadia High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War. Dan married Carolyn Whiteside on Oct. 1, 1950, in Fort Scott. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2013. He worked for Coca-Cola, the Gas Service Company, and then Whiteside's Grocery as the manager of the east store. Dan and Carolyn both retired from the store in 1993. After retirement, Dan drove vehicles for Shepherd Team Auto Plaza when needed. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and hunting quail. He was a member of the VFW and the First Church of God.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Mark Dobbins and wife Katherine, Fort Worth, Texas, and Thomas Matthew Dobbins and wife Julie, Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Donna Beth Dugan and husband Dennis, Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Danny, Mark, and Matthew Dobbins, Abby and Sarah Dugan, and Luke and Caleb Dobbins; two brothers, Perry Dobbins, Fort Scott, and Charles William Dobbins, Frontenac, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Carolyn, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ray Dobbins; and a sister, Doris Herlocker.

Rev. Philip Wilson will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 VFW. Memorials are suggested to Mercy Hospice and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S.
