Bollinger champ at Eudora, still unbeaten

EUDORA -- Sophomore Derek Bollinger won his weight class here Saturday and remains undefeated on the season while five other members of the Fort Scott High wrestling team earned medals at the two-day Eudora Invitational.

Bollinger improved his season record to 13-0 in winning the 145-pound weight class. In pool matches on Friday, he pinned Perry of St. Marys, drew a bye, defeated Ben Heide of Maize South via technical fall, pinned Fisher of St. Thomas Aquinas and defeated Vossmer of DeSoto by another technical fall.

Saturday, Bollinger pinned Tommy Boyd of Kansas City-Schlagle in the quarterfinals. He defeated Caeden Searcy of Tonganoxie, 6-4, in the semifinals and Reese Williams of Wellsville by the same score in the finals.

Zarek Fewell finished fourth at 152 pounds. Friday, he defeated Crossairt of Shawnee Mission South, 13-3, Chandler Bloomer of Ottawa, 9-2, and pinned Hager of Atchison County.

Saturday, Fewell began the bracket portion of competition with a 14-8 win over Jackson McQuality of DeSoto. He was pinned by Luke Moore of Maize South in the semifinal.

In consolation, Fewell pinned Bloomer in a rematch. But Eudora's Noah Kennedy won the third-place bout, 10-8.

Tyler Gorman finished fifth at 106 pounds. In pool matches, he defeated Dawkins of Shawnee Mission South, 6-3, and Elbrader, who was wrestling unattached, 10-2. He was also pinned by Louisburg's Hunter Bindi.

In the bracket, Gorman was pinned by Bret Minor of St. Thomas Aquinas in the quarterfinals. He pinned Tonganoxie's Austin Lang in consolation before Bindi won a rematch, 12-2. In the fifth-place match, Gorman defeated Claye Howard of Lansing, 9-6.

Mannie Gonzales finished sixth at 120 in his first varsity outing of the season. In the pool, he pinned Brown of St. Marys, was pinned by Turner of Schlagle and pinned Werner of DeSoto. In the quarterfinal round, Isaia Olson of Shawnee Mission South won by pin. In consolation, Gonzales defeated Ricky Norout of Ottawa, 5-1, then was pinned by Tonganoxie's Korbin Riedel. In the fifth-place match, Louisburg's Nathan Keegan took a 3-1 decision.

Jordan Crowder finished seventh at 182. He pinned Neis of Eudora, drew a bye, then was pinned by Cruickshank of St Marys in pool matches. He was pinned by Ottawa's Blaine Ray in a first-round bracket match, lost to RayQuon Stowers in the consolation semifinal, 3-1, then won the seventh-place match by forfeit over Marcus Barnes of Tonganoxie.

Chris Stell finished eighth at 160 pounds. In pool matches, he drew a bye then defeated Hasenfeder of Shawnee Mission South via technical fall, Crisslier, wrestling unattached, 12-1, Childress of Spring Hill by injury default and pinned Maltbia of Kansas City-Schlagle. In the bracket, he was pinned by Chance Rodriguez of Holcomb, pinned by Dillon Roberts, unattached, and lost to Nate Panagakis of DeSoto, 7-0, in the seventh-place match.

Phillip Moran wrestled at 126 pounds. He advanced from his pool with pins over King of St. Marys, Fleers, unattached, and Sanchez of Schlagle, drew a bye, then lost to Huseman of Tonganoxie by technical fall. In the bracket, he was pinned by Bryce Gfeller of Rossville and lost to Dalton Good of Wellsville, 11-2.

Alex Gorman wrestled 132 but was unable to advance from the pool. He was pinned by Hurla of Rossville and Stancher of Tonganoxie, drew two byes, and won by forfeit over Cruz of St. Marys.

Thomas Nighswonger was also unable to advance out of the pool at 138. He drew a bye, pinned Cheatham of Lawrence, was pinned by Whitson of Buhler and Taylor of Spring Hill and defeated King, who wrestled unattached, 11-2.

Trevor Hazlip, at 170, also was unable to advance out of the pool. He drew two byes, was pinned by Gentry of Rossville, lost 17-7 to Knight of Tonganoxie and 6-3 to Green of Louisburg.

As a team, the Tigers finished in 10th place with 158.5 points, one behind Ottawa. Rossville won the team title with 287 points followed by Maize South with 221 and Schlagle with 202.5.

The Tigers will wrestle in the Ottawa Dual Tournament Saturday.
