Tigers second seed at Ottawa
Fort Scott High School's volleyball team will be the No. 2 seed in Saturday's Class 4A-Division I Sub-State Tournament at Ottawa, according to a bracket released by the Kansas State High School Activities Association Wednesday morning.
The Tigers (16-18) will face third-seeded Labette County (12-19) in the second first-round match. The tournament begins at 2 p.m. with the fourth-seeded host Cyclones (8-27) taking on top-seeded Southeast Kansas League co-champion Chanute (24-14).
The first-round winners will face each other in the championship match. The winner advances to the Class 4A-Division I State Tournament at Salina, which takes place October 30-31.
Independence is the top seed at the Winfield Class 4A-Division I Sub-State with its 26-6 record. The Bulldogs face the host school (3-32) in the first match there Saturday with third-seeded Coffeyville (16-18) to follow against second-seeded Wellington (17-17).
Pittsburg is the No. 3 seed in the Lenexa St. James Class 5A Sub-State pool. The SEK co-champs (25-13) will take on Kansas City-Harmon (10-14) in one semifinal while Shawnee-Mill Valley (12-20) faces defending State champion St. Thomas Aquinas (27-9) in the other. The winners will meet for a Class 5A State berth.
Parsons (5-24) has drawn the No. 3 seed at the Class 4A-Division II Sub-State at Anderson County. The Vikings face No. 2 Prairie View (5-24) in the second semifinal. Iola (4-27) takes on top-seeded Anderson County (27-8) in the other. The winners will also play for a State berth.
