FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Uniontown concludes TRL play tonight

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Tonight, Uniontown travels to Pleasanton to take on the Blu-Jays in the final game the school will play in the Three Rivers League's Eight-Man division. The Eagles will return to the 11-man game next season

Uniontown has already clinched its first league title since 2011 even if Pleasanton somehow pulls off the upset. This is because the TRL uses tiebreakers and Uniontown has beaten the two teams -- St. Paul and Marmaton Valley -- that could finish tied with it.

This is also an Eight-Man Division I District 1 game. The Eagles are in the driver's seat for the district championship, which would be the school's first since 2005, but still want to play well. With another district game next Thursday at home versus Waverly, Uniontown doesn't want to take any chances of ending up in a tie for second place or a three-way tie for first.

Uniontown is 3-0 in the district, 5-0 in the league and 7-0 overall. Pleasanton comes in 0-3, 1-4 and 1-6 with its only win coming over winless Altoona-Midway.

Waverly (1-2 district, 3-4 overall) plays at Marmaton Valley (1-2, 4-3) tonight and Marais des Cygnes Valley (2-1, 4-3) is at St. Paul (2-1, 5-2) in a game that could determine which team gets the second playoff berth out of this district.

The district champion plays at home against the District 2 runner-up in the Bi-District playoff round on November 4. The runner-up has to go on the road and face the District 2 champion in Bi-District play.

Kickoff tonight is at 7 p.m. in Pleasanton.
