Eagle volleyball fourth at Central Heights
RICHMOND -- Uniontown's volleyball team finished fourth here Saturday in a tournament held at Central Heights.
"This is always a tough tournament," Eagles head coach Jackie Hall said, "seeing schools from up north. But it was great to come out of pool (play) and have the opportunity to advance."
Uniontown (18-15) began the tournament with matches against a pair of Class 4A-Division II schools. They fell 25-23, 25-20 to Girard but defeated Osawatomie, 25-22, 25-16, with Lindsay Nietfeld collecting 8 kills.
The Eagles swept Class 3A Erie, 25-17, 25-18, to advance out of the pool. Nietfeld had 6 kills and Holly Shinn picked up 5.
Central Heights, another 3A school, swept Uniontown in the semifinals, 25-18, 25-18. Shinn had 6 kills in the match.
Erie took the third-place match, 25-20, 8-25, 25-17. Nietfeld had 8 kills.
Regular-season play concludes tonight at Moran with non-league matches against host Marmaton Valley and Pleasanton. The first match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
