FSMS 8th grade sixth at Pittsburg
PITTSBURG -- The Fort Scott Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team finished fourth in an eight-team tournament here Saturday.
The Tigers fared well in pool play, winning two of three, losing only to Joplin, Mo., 25-13 and 25-17. FSMS took down Independence 25-20, 25-22 and also defeated Coffeyville 25-17, 25-17.
"We ended up with a three-way tie in our pool," FSMS head coach Kelly Toll said as each team was 2-1. "The tie-breaker was how many points had been given up."
However, the Tigers allowed the most points of the three and wound up in third place in the pool, where they faced Lamar, Mo., for fifth place. The Missourians took the win, 25-18, 25-22.
Both the Tiger seventh and eighth grades played at Jayhawk-Linn Monday and will host Nevada tonight at the FSMS gymnasium. Play is set to begin at 4 p.m.
