UNIONTOWN -- It was Senior Night. It was Dig Pink Night. But it wasn't a good night overall for Uniontown's volleyball team Tuesday as they won only one of three matches in a Three Rivers League quadrangular at the West Bourbon Elementary gymnasium.

The Eagles (3-4 TRL, 11-10 overall) swept Chetopa, 25-13, 25-13. They lost to Jayhawk-Linn 25-13, 25-18, and Marmaton Valley, 25-13, 12-25, 25-19.

The loss to rival Marmaton Valley seemed to bother Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall the most.

"Chetopa was a different level team than Moran (Marmaton Valley) and Jayhawk," Hall said. "I was pleased with the Jayhawk match. I thought we played really, really well.

"The Moran match, we had opportunities but did not make good choices when we did get set up in the offense. Hitters were off balance. Hitters hit balls into the net. We missed serves. I don't know how many serves we missed at crucial times."

The match versus Marmaton Valley was the only one the entire night that went to three sets -- Jayhawk-Linn and Marmaton Valley also swept Chetopa but didn't play each other.

The first set was close until six-foot senior Mackenzie Tynon took serve for the first time. She served 5 aces during a 12-0 run that made it 17-6.

Tynon was also playing well in the front row, calling for the ball as though she didn't care if the Eagles knew what she was going to do with it.

"We couldn't handle serve receive," Hall said. "We got down on each other. We didn't communicate. I'm just really disappointed that it was our Senior Night and playing at home for just the second time and we couldn't execute out of a basic serve receive. We tried to make some adjustments to fix it. I had some people who I thought could get the job done just kind of freak out."

The Eagles got a 9-0 run in the second set as Holly Shinn served 3 aces to help her team go up 13-9. The set ended with a Uniontown 10-1 run capped by Madison Wilkinson's ace serve.

The third set played out like the first with Tynon controlling things although the Wildcats didn't enjoy long runs.

Shinn had 9 kills for the Eagles while Kate Coll handed out 17 assists. Blair Rockhold had 5 digs.

Uniontown 7 of the final 8 points in the first set versus Chetopa and 10 of the last 12 in the second to take the sweep there. Aubry O'Neal had 7 kills and Lindsay Neitfeld 6 for the Eagles. Coll handed out 17 assists. Rockhold had 6 digs.

Jayhawk-Linn needed an 8-1 run to close out the first set versus Uniontown. The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second set but Jayhawk scored the next 8.

Uniontown was within 19-17 before the Jayhawks scored 6 of the last 7 of the set.

Shinn had 6 kills and 13 digs in the Jayhawk match. Nietfeld had 5 kills. Coll handed out 17 assists and Rockhold had 6 digs.
