Tiger varsity girls win team title at Iola

IOLA -- Fort Scott High School's varsity girls won the team title at the Doc Stiles Invitation here Tuesday, beating out Anderson County by one team point.

Fort Scott's girls also placed third in the girls' junior varsity race. And Gavin Smith was the winner of the boys' JV race for the Tigers.

Fort Scott was competing without Cassidy Westhoff and Devin Brooks, who were held out to race at a meet held by the Univerisity of Kansas at Rim Rock Farm today. Westhoff will race in the Girls' Blue Division at 11:30 a.m. and Brooks will compete in the Boys' Blue Division at Noon.

The varsity girls scored 30 team points to 31 for runner-up Anderson County. The girls were scored for second, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth places. Anderson County had the race winner and scored for third, sixth, 10th and 11th.

Averi Wilson was the race winner for Anderson County, completing the 5,000 meters in 19:39.0. Mallor Westhoff led Fort Scott's runners with a fourth-place time of 21:56.1. Berkley Chavis was 11th with her time of 23:31.7. Clare Gorman was 17th in 24:15.2, Emma Davis 18th in 24:22.3, Kaylee Coombs 19th in 24.23.4 and Kylie Bruner was 39th in 29:43.9.

Garrett Tatro was the only Fort Scott runner in the boys' varsity race. He finished 21st in 20:00.3. Hadley Splechter of Yates Center was the winer in 17:19.3.

Fort Scott's JV girls scored 74 points to finish third. Chanute was first with 31 points followed by Anderson County second with 49.

Asia Farrington had the Tigers' best time, placing eighth in 26.23.30. Lexi Bryant was 18th in 28:05.6. Alyx Brooks was 29th in 30:33.90, Ragan McKenzie 30th in 30:43.1, Melonie Harper 44th in 33:28.50, Olivia Houston 46th in 33.57.50, Emily Willis 51st in 36:16.10, and Mary Gladbach 56th in 38:02.7.

Uniontown's Nikki Bollinger finished 19th in 28:08.9.

Smith won the boys' JV race in 29:29.7. Devon Walker of Chanute was second in 20.45.3 and Fort Scott's Nick Shelton was third in 20:50.40.

Sheldon Bailey of Uniontown placed fifth in 21:30.3. Dylan O'Neal finished 24th fo the Eagles in 23:56.6.

Rounding out Fort Scott's results are Ben Morris, 18th in 23:41.1, and Joe Adams, 32nd in 24:30.6.

Both Fort Scott and Uniontown are scheduled to appear at Pittsburg on Thursday.
