Three Tiger winners at Big Hill race
CHERRYVALE -- Fort Scott High School's cross country teams had three race winners and a team champion in Parsons' meet at Big Hill Lake here Thursday.
Tiger girls won the varsity team title with 51 points, finishing eight points ahead of Independence. Chanute was third with 78 points.
The varsity girls were led by Cassidy Westhoff's winning time of 19 minutes, 53 seconds, two minutes ahead of the runner up. Grace Willis finished 12th in 24:46. Mallory Westhoff was 17th in 25:09, Paxsten Eads 22nd in 25:50, Berkley Chavis 23rd in 26:05, Kelsey Carpenter 26th in 26:31, Clare Gorman 29th in 26:57 and Kaylee Coombs 37th in 28:30.
Devin Brooks was the winner of the boys' varsity race in a time of 18:39.47. Hadley Splechter of Yates Center was second in 18:51.69. Garrett Tatro finished 37th for the Tigers in 22:26.53.
Nick Shelton won the boys' junior varsity race with a time of 22:19.18. Cameron Riley of Coffeyville was second in 22:28.69.
Sheldon Bailey of Uniontown finished in seventh place in 23:20.28. Teammate Dylan O'Neal was 41st in 27:47.56.
Fort Scott's Emma Davis finished third in the JV girls' race, turning in a time of 20:45.47 over four kilometers (the other three races were the standard 5K). Kayla Holstrom of Baxter Springs was the winner in 20:08.59. Shelby Yoho of Marmaton Valley was third in 20:14.03.
Asia Farrington finished 18th in 23:25. Kyle Bruner was 35th in 25:19.88, Mackenzie Regan was 40th in 36:54.15 with Melonie Harper 41st in 26:55.09. Audra McFarland finished 43rd in 27:04.46. Alyx Brooks was 46th in 27:34.31 and Olivia Houston finished 57th in 30:47.84.
Uniontown's Nikole Bollinger placed 24th in 24:07.09.
As a team, the Tigers finished in second place in the JV girls' standings with 52 points. Anderson County was the winner with 31.
Both Fort Scott and Uniontown are scheduled to send runners to the Doc Stiles Invitational at Iola on Tuesday. The first race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
NOTE -- There were problems with official results, with girls' varsity having the most. This was the third revision that Parsons official made of which the Tribune was aware....
