No. 20 FSCC tested in weekend tourney
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Fort Scott Community College, ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA Division II volleyball poll, received a stiff test here at the Northeast Community College Tournament, going 3-1 over the weekend.
The Greyhounds (7-2) started Friday with a 3-1 win over Iowa Lakes, 25-21, 30-28, 22-25, 25-14. Sheri Middleton recorded 11 kills for Fort Scott while Brette Moore and Brandi Huesman each had 9. Mickey Trimble handed out 23 assists while Morgan McNeeley dished 19.
Emily Bruce was credited with 36 digs while McNeeley had 20 and Huesman came up with 14.
The Greyhounds then defeated No. 4-ranked Central (Neb.) in five sets, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 17-15. Moore had 19 kills, Huesman 12 and Middleton and Julia Stringer 10 each.
Trimble cast 38 assists while McNeeley had 25. Bruce had 38 digs with Trimble picking up 17 and McNeeley and Huesman 15 each.
Saturday, the Greyhounds opened with No. 12 Kirkwood (Iowa), which won in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14, 25-20. Moore had 11 kills. Trimble handed out 21 assists. Bruce totaled 31 digs.
The 'Hounds wrapped things up with a 3-1 win over host Northeast, 25-23, 20-25, 29-27, 25-20. Middleton led with 15 kills while Moore had 13 and Huesman 11.
Trimble was credited with 35 assists. Bruce registered 35 digs while Huesman tallied 17.
The Greyhounds will be back in action tonight with a non-conference matchup against Cottey College. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
NOTES -- Linday Hill won her 100th match as head coach of FSCC volleyball when the Greyhounds defeated Division III No. 2 Brookhaven during the home tournament on Aug. 21 at Arnold Arena. With the seven wins the 'Hounds have this season, Hill is currently 105-51 as Fort Scott's coach. Her teams have won more matches than any others in school history and she is second the school's all-time list in winning percentage....
