Tiger cross-country enjoys large turnout
In addition to football, all other fall sports at Fort Scott High School held their first practices Monday. These sports are volleyball, soccer, cross-country, girls' golf and girls' tennis.
The Tribune was able to get reports from three of those sports Monday. Tracey Bogina has reported 23 out for her cross-country squad, the highest in many years.
According to Bogina, the team will practice at 8 a.m. this week. There will some 6 a.m. practices next week due to inservices and heat in the weather forecast. Once school begins August 27, practice will be held after school when the weather is good or at 6 p.m. when it's expected to be extremely hot.
The cross-country season begins Sept. 3 at Labette County.
Volleyball head coach Carol Bingesser said that 35 girls reported Monday morning. The team is practicing twice a day with conditioning at the city pool in the morning and regular practice at the high school gymnasium at 3:30.
Volleyball will hold its Red & White Scrimmage at 4 p.m. on August 28. The Tigers' first match will be held September 1 at home against Chanute and Colgan.
Fort Scott girls' golf coach Karen Curran reported only three girls at practice on Monday. However, she expected a fourth person to report today and another one next Monday. She hopes to get some more to come out.
Practice is from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every day this week at Woodland Hills Golf Course. The first varsity tournament will be held September 1 at Oswego with Labette County as the host team.
