Mildred J. Hudson, age 95, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center after a brief illness. Mildred was born Aug. 28, 1919 in Minden Mines, Mo., the daughter of Edgar and Lillian Culver Jumet.

After the sudden death of her father, the family moved to Fort Scott where Mildred and her two sisters lived for a short time at the Goodlander Home for Children. She was then adopted by O.A. and Louise Cheney of Fort Scott.

Mildred graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1936 and Lindenwood College, in St. Charles, Mo., in 1940. She majored in music at Lindenwood with violin performance as her concentration. During her junior and senior years, she performed in the violin section of the St. Louis Symphony on several occasions.

Upon her graduation from Lindenwood, she married William J. Bloomfield in Fort Scott. They later divorced. She then married Douglas G. Hudson in 1971. He preceded her in death in 1983.

Mildred lived a long and active life. Music remained very important to her and she was a founding member of the Fort Scott String Trio. This group performed many recitals and concerts around the Midwest. She was also very active in the local chapter CA of P.E.O., and international women's philanthropic organization. She traveled extensively and loved all outdoor activities. Golf was a special love of hers and she won many tournaments and trophies during her lifetime.

In addition to her husband Douglas, Mildred was preceded in death by her father and mother; her adoptive parents O.A. and Louise Cheney; her sisters Laurine and Dorothy; a daughter Susan Welsch; grandson William Joseph Bloomfield, and step-daughter Penny Province. She is survived by a son Melvin Bloomfield and wife Patricia of Broken Arrow, Okla.; son Tim Bloomfield and wife Sheryl, of Fort Scott; granddaughter Anne Fisher and husband Jeff of Alexandria, Va.; granddaughter Susan Steward and husband Brent of Bartlesville, Okla.; granddaughter Jenny Sciara and husband Ryan of Kansas City, Mo.; grandson Matt Bloomfield and wife Sara of Leawood, Kan.; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are stepsons Bannus Hudson of San Francisco, Calif., and Blake Hudson of Fort Scott.

In honor of her wishes, her body was cremated with a private family memorial to be held at a later date.
