Former FSCC gridder signs with Chiefs
Former Fort Scott Community College All-American defensive back Kevin Short signed a rookie free-agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday after each of the National Football League's 30 teams took a pass on him in the 2015 Supplemental Draft.
Short played here in 2011 and 2012 and holds Fort Scott's single-season (7) and career (10) records for interceptions. He intended to play at the University of Kansas on 2013 but the NCAA ruled he was ineligible to play. He played in the Jayhawks' spring game in 2014 but never a competitive down at Kansas.
According to reports, the Chiefs were interested in Short because of his size, 6-feet-2 and 190 pounds. Defensive back Kenneth Penny was waived to clear a space for Short on the Chiefs' 90-man pre-season roster.
Should Short survive the early portions of training camp, he could see time in the Chiefs' first pre-season game at Arizona on August 15 (8 p.m., KCTV, KODE).
