The Vogt Sisters

Maggie and Abbey Vogts, sisters from Erie, will bring their musical talents to the stage during the Good Ol' Days street festival Saturday evening.

The popular sister duo, who have performed in Fort Scott several times, will perform on their "My Own Dixie" tour from 4 to 7 p.m. at the First Street stage during the festival. The duo recently released their first all-original album, "My Own Dixie," recorded at the Hall of Fame Music Studio in Neodesha, according to a news release.

Their debut album, "Old Time Noise," was released in 2012.

Touring throughout the year in and around Kansas, the sisters offer graceful performances, blending timeless Americana and folk music with sweet sister harmony. A few of their musical influences include Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch. Maggie graduated from Pittsburg State University in 2013 and Abbey is a 2015 graduate of Erie High School. Despite their young age, the girls have a highly-developed sense of who they are and what they represent, the release said.

"The Vogts sisters are amazing," Larry Brockway, producer and engineer at Hall of Fame Music Studio, said in the release. "Their harmonies rival some of the finest duets in the business. Add that to their poignant and beautifully written songs and you have two young ladies that will be very successful artists."

"The vocal harmonies between the sisters are fantastic time and time again. Each sister has a good voice when singing solo bug magic happens when they combine, which they luckily do quite often," Ted Rogen of The Equal Ground said in the release.

The sisters have a love for music that began in church and at backyard family gatherings. Old-time cowboy ballads and country tunes created a genuine admiration for bluegrass, folk and rural Americana music, according to Good Ol' Days information on the duo.

The duo have performed numerous times as part of the Friday Night Concert Series in downtown Fort Scott. They have also performed in the past at the Good Ol' Days festival.

The duo's album, "My Own Dixie" showcases 10 original songs, written and arranged by Maggie, including the award-winning title "Ballad of a Love Miscast," a 2014 Indie-International Songwriting Competition folk-division winner. Another album tune, "Wrong," was selected and performed for the NewSong Showcase at the 2014 Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, the release said.

The lyrical maturity and growth on this album shows heart and depth in the sisters' approach to harmony. Accompanying the girls on fiddle, mandolin and bass are the Eicher Family (Shelby, Isaac and Nathan), professional musicians from Tulsa, Okla., who round out this album to near perfection, bestowing the Vogts sisters with wings to fly, the release said.
