Frances A. Merrell

Frances A. Merrell, 103, of Fort Scott, died Saturday morning, May 16, 2015 at Guest Home Estates. She was born Dec. 28, 1911 in a covered wagon in Indian Territory in Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Sterling and Octa (Morris) Anderson. She married Jeff Merrell Dec. 7, 1941 in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death Nov. 17, 1991.

Frances is survived by her children, Frances Cindy Woods and husband Don of Fort Scott, and Lewis C. Merrell and wife Karen of Joplin, Mo.; a brother, Hayes "Buzz" Thompson and wife Mary of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Mildred Brown of Ekron, Ky., and April Estes of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Kay Cooksey, Marcus Cooksey, Tonya Cherne, Arthur Hodge II, Lewis Merrell, Jr., Heather Couk, and Adam Merrell; 16 great-grandchildren, and her beloved Brenda Sue. In addition to her husband Jeff, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Cornell M. Cooksey; three brothers, James Anderson, Wilbert Anderson, and Emmett Thompson; Lula Mae Anderson, Velma Anderson, Carrie Hilliard, and Barbara Ruth Wesley.

Elder Troy Webb will conduct funeral services for Frances at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the services beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt.
