June Hereford

June Hereford, age 88, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Fort Scott Manor. She was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Fort Scott, the daughter of James H. Lang and Leona G. Potter Lang. June graduated from Fort Scott High School. She married Dale L. "Pete" Hereford on May 22, 1944, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1993. June worked at various Fort Scott businesses including, the Gift Shoppe, Town & Country Western Wear, Gold Photo and Singer. She also did bookkeeping for Capital Truck Line, H&R Block, Red Cross and the United Way. She retired as a file clerk for the Bourbon County SRS office in 2010. June was a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Tabernacle. She had also been a member of the Unionbend Birthday Club and the Northwest Scott EHU. She enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Center and husband, Ron and her daughter-in-law, Susan Hereford Porter, all of Fort Scott. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bill Center and wife, Laurie, Ronette Center, Scott Center and wife, Kacy, Lynna Myer and husband, Larry, Danny Hereford and wife, Jackie, Jeff Daly and wife, Julie and Troy Landers and wife, Becky; 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Louis Hereford; two granddaughters, Millissia and Nancy Center; a grandson, Keith Dale Center and a brother, James Lang.

Rev. Paul Rooks, Rev. A. F. Collins, Rev. Bill Center and Scott Center will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at the Grace Baptist Tabernacle. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Tabernacle and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
