The top two seeds, Fort Scott High and Labette County, will face off at Dave Regan Stadium at 6 p.m. tonight in an All-Red battle for the Class 4A-Division I Regional Tournament championship and the State tourney berth that comes with it.

In Monday's games, fourth-seeded Chanute defeated Independence in the so-called "play-in" game, 3-1. Then No. 2 seed Fort Scott withstood a shaky first inning to beat Coffeyville, 7-3. In the final game of the night, top seed Labette County held off Chanute, 2-0.

The Tigers (16-4) saw Coffeyville's first four runners reach base, three of the scoring. Catcher Nick Wintjen led off the game with a single through the shortstop hole. Brad Hershey was hit by a Wyatt Reehl pitch. Grant Newton drew a walk to load the bases.

Fort Scott's third baseman Benjamin Labbe (34) readies a throw to first to get a Coffeyville runner early in Monday's game. Labbe had assists on back-to-back plays to end the first inning and four total in the game. (Kenny Felt/Special to the Tribune)

Micah Elrod got a hit to left field to being Wintjen home. Then Zachary Kirk grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed Hershey to score. A groundout to third brought Newton home but another groundout finally got the Tigers out of the inning.

Jake Bradbury led off Fort Scott's half of the inning with a single, beating out a long throw by the Coffeyville shortstop. But he was thrown out trying to steal second and nothing more came of the inning.

Wintjen got on with a bunt single with 2 out in the top of the second, but that turned out to be the last hit of the game for the Golden Tornado (11-6).

Fort Scott tied the game in the second with 3 unearned runs. Mason Knopp reached on a leadoff error. Carter Young was hit by a pitch. Grant Goldston drew a walk, loading the bases. Then Reehl managed a sacrifice fly to score Knopp. Benjamin Labbe and Alex Fink drew back-to-back walks to load the bases again, the second one forcing Young home.

Coffeyville changed pitchers, but Kaleb DeLaTorre beat the first baseman to the bag on a hit to the right side of the infield, which allowed Goldston to score the tying run with 2 out.

Knopp got a single to left to lead off the third inning, stole second and scored on a 2-out single by Reehl to put the Tigers ahead, 4-3.

DeLaTorre was hit by a pitch with one out in the fourth. Chase Brown drew a walk. A pair of wild pitches allowed DeLaTorre to score, making it 5-3.

Reehl reached on an error with one out in the fifth. Courtesy runner Drew Martin came in and Labbe followed up with a double to right. Bradbury drove in both runners with a 2-out single to left.

Reehl (5-0) settled down and allowed a total of 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. He also was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI at the plate. Bradbury was the only Tiger with 2 hits but four Nado pitchers allowed a total of 8 walks and hit 2 batters.

Game One: Chanute 3, Independence 1.

Cutter Boone's sacrifice fly broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth as Chanute went on to beat Independence (7-12).

Alex Son allowed 7 hits and 2 walks over the first 5 innings while striking out 3. Trez Martinez, who was 2 for 2 at bat, closed out, allowing only a sixth-inning walk.

Game Three: Labette County 2, Chanute 1.

Jake Mattox got stronger on the mound for the Grizzlies (17-5) as the game went along, recording 6 of his 9 strikeouts in the final 3 innings. He allowed only 4 hits and one walk.

Braden Anderson singled with one out in the bottom of the second and went on to score on an error for what turned out to be the winning run. Parker Grant drove in Dylan Giager with a single in the third.

Josh Miller was the hard-luck loser for Chanute (8-12), allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks over six innings.
